Philips to showcase AI imaging, cloud radiology, & sustainable solutions at ECR 2025

Royal Philips announced its AI-enabled innovations in precision imaging that will be showcased at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) annual congress in Vienna. The company also aims to accelerate the availability of its cloud-based radiology services to European customers. With this year’s ECR theme focused on Planet Radiology, Philips will spotlight its continued focus on delivering innovative and sustainable hardware and software solutions with a lower carbon footprint, providing better care to more people.
“By embedding AI directly onto our systems for both diagnosis and workflow, we are empowering the next generation of radiology to advance precision imaging for more patients and deliver better care for more people,” said Bert van Meurs, Chief Business Leader of Image Guided Therapy at Philips. “Our customers need access to the right data at the right time, where smart imaging systems with intelligent software can bring faster diagnosis and treatment in growing volumes of patient cases in critical areas like Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and cardiac care.”

AI-enabled Diagnostic Imaging systems bring better care to more people
Philps will introduce its next-generation BlueSeal helium-free MRI system in Europe – the first high-performance Helium-free 1.5T scanner [1] – now embedded with AI in every step of the MR workflow to deliver fast and efficient scanning, simplifying the path from image acquisition to diagnosis. With over 1,500 systems installed worldwide, the next generation BlueSeal MR will be equipped with the latest innovative features in Philips MR Workspace software, including an AI-powered platform to help technologists manage backlogs by automating 80% of procedures [2]. Also being launched as part of the new BlueSeal system is the next generation of Philips SmartSpeed, designed to deliver improved scan times with great precision. In addition, Philips will introduce a new era of software-defined CT with the CT 5300 system. The comprehensive suite of AI enhancements in image quality, accuracy, and efficiency features Precise Image AI reconstruction, an AI-enabled smart positioning camera, and the NanoPanel Precise detector designed for AI. These latest innovations in CT offer improved image quality, even at ultra-low dose levels, and increased productivity, helping clinicians manage rising cardiac procedure volumes more efficiently.
Every 3 seconds, someone in the world suffers a stroke, yet only a fraction of these patients will get access to the minimally invasive treatment they need to get treated and survive a stroke [3]. At ECR, Philips will spotlight advanced systems in Image Guided Therapy including its Azurion neuro biplane system, a complete interventional solution for confident diagnosis, image guidance, and therapy assessment of patients with stroke or other challenging neurovascular diseases. Minimally invasive procedures enabled by interventional systems like Azurion are a key part of the diagnosis and treatment pathway for stroke, where every minute counts in conserving the patient’s quality of life.
Cloud-first, AI-enabled radiology informatics services offering
As healthcare providers continue to face significant challenges, Philips works closely with clinicians to develop innovative ways to address increasing clinical demands and workforce shortages. After having successfully transitioned over 150 sites across North America and Latin America to Philips HealthSuite Imaging, Philips will continue building on its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate the availability of cloud services in Europe [4]. Philips’ cloud-based informatics services aim to help radiologists and clinicians seamlessly view, share, and access data and images at any location and at any time, to improve operational efficiency by having faster access to future innovations. ECR attendees will experience how Philips is exploring generative AI and its potential to reduce report editing time while maintaining high quality by integrating patient histories and clinical context into the final diagnostic report.
New automated workflow and quantitative measurement functions in ultrasound speed exams and increase clinical confidence
In the hands of an experienced imaging professional, ultrasound is one of the most versatile and accessible forms of diagnostic imaging. However, as patient volume continues to increase, experienced imaging professionals are in short supply, with high burn-out rates among existing staff members and lengthy training times for new recruits. At ECR Philips will showcase the new Elevate software release with advanced intelligence for Philips EPIQ Elite and Affiniti ultrasound imaging platforms to help address the growing need for faster workflows and more efficient diagnostic processes. With over 100+ new image quality pre-sets for abdomen, vascular, small parts, pediatrics, and OB/GYN, both systems feature advanced automation and algorithms to deliver greater precision imaging and intuitive workflows to help boost clinical confidence and speed up exam times. During abdominal exams, the latest automation can reduce the time it takes to optimize imaging acquisition by as much as 50% [3], while the automation of liver elastography helps reduce liver shear wave elastography exam time by up to 60% [5].
