Philips is setting new standards in transforming cardiac care through innovative, sustainable, and AI-driven solutions, particularly in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. By collaborating with Myocardial Solutions (Durham, North Carolina, USA), a leader in cardiac imaging technologies, Philips brings advanced care to more people, ensuring equitable outcomes and better access to healthcare systems across the globe. For cancer survivors and patients undergoing treatment, early detection of heart disease due to cardiotoxicity potentially caused by cancer therapies can be a life-changing breakthrough. This collaboration aims to improve survival rates and enhance the quality of life for individuals undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment, bridging a significant gap between heart and cancer care.
Advancing cardio-oncology care to detect cardiac risks earlier
Philips and Myocardial Solutions are championing innovations in cardio-oncology, bringing cutting-edge imaging technologies such as Fast-SENC [1] and MyoStrain into the cardiac care space that may help detect early signs of cardiotoxicity, enabling clinicians to protect patients undergoing cancer treatments. Subtle changes in heart function can be directly measured to recognize early detection of heart failure across 48 segments of the heart [2] in 10 minutes, with less than 5 minutes of analysis time [2] to help identify regional dysfunction before it impacts the entire heart.
AI-Driven Technology Accelerating CMR Efficiency
Philips SmartSpeed integrated with AI-driven Compressed SENSE and Adaptive-CS-Net technologies enhances speed and accuracy to accelerate scan times by up to 3x [3] while maintaining image quality, enabling high-resolution 2D and 3D cardiac imaging across 97% of clinical protocols [4]. Designed to shorten CMR exams and optimize patient comfort, SmartSpeed supports advanced contrasts, including angiography and quantitative imaging like T1 mapping, furthering diagnostic confidence even in challenging scenarios. These capabilities enable clinicians to perform faster or higher-quality imaging with reduced exam times, positively impacting workflow efficiency and patient care. Incorporating robust AI reconstruction at the beginning of the MR signal maximizes image quality, laying a strong foundation for confident diagnostics and advanced CMR applications.
Sustainable Innovation Revolutionizing Cardiac Care
With the introduction of this next-generation BlueSeal system [5] with helium-free [6] technology, Philips addresses environmental challenges with systems that reduce helium dependency, lower the overall carbon footprint, and align with the company’s global sustainability goals. With the world’s first and only BlueSeal mobile MRI system, Philips is breaking down barriers to care. This mobile system is designed to deliver the same high-quality imaging typically found in hospitals, making them ideal for rural clinics, and underserved and resource-limited areas.
“By combining our innovative BlueSeal innovation and SmartSpeed technologies with Myocardial Solutions’ specialized expertise in cardiac care, we aim to redefine the standard of cardiac care, environmental responsibility, and accessibility,” said Ioannis Panagiotelis, Business Leader of MR at Philips.
Philips and Myocardial Solutions will showcase their joint cardiac diagnostic capabilities at the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) Annual Scientific Congress (January 29 – February 1, Washington DC, U.S.) where Prof. Dr. Sebastian Kelle from the German Heart Center and Charité University Medicine (Berlin, Germany) will present his experience with the Philips - Myocardial Solutions technologies.
