GE HealthCare and Mayo Clinic Partner to Transform the Future of Radiation Therapy

A strategic collaboration to reshape cancer care
GE HealthCare and Mayo Clinic have launched the GE HealthCare–Mayo Clinic Initiative in Radiation Therapy, known as GEMINI-RT, marking a significant expansion of their long-standing research partnership. Building on their 2023 Strategic Radiology Research Collaboration, this new effort focuses on using integrated imaging, artificial intelligence, and patient monitoring technologies to deliver more precise and individualized radiation therapy across the cancer care continuum.

Driving innovation across prediction, planning, and clinical workflow
Radiation therapy remains a foundation of cancer treatment, used in more than half of all cancer cases worldwide. With global cancer incidence continuing to rise, GEMINI-RT aims to address increasing clinical demand by developing approaches that improve efficiency, enhance accuracy, and support clinician well-being. The initiative uses Mayo Clinic’s extensive clinical practice expertise and outcomes data together with GE HealthCare’s engineering and technological capabilities to explore new models of personalized radiation therapy.

Four core areas guiding the joint research program
The collaboration will structure its efforts around automation, predictive oncology, multimodal treatment strategies, and connected care. Research activities will examine AI-enabled workflow acceleration, individualized treatment decision-making, integration of radiation with complementary therapies, and patient monitoring technologies designed to support care beyond the clinic. These combined efforts aim to create a more adaptive and data-driven infrastructure for radiation oncology.

A platform for long-term clinical and technological advancement
Work under GEMINI-RT will be conducted at Mayo Clinic’s Rochester campus, enabling close integration of clinical research, advanced imaging, and product development. The initiative extends the partners’ broader collaboration, which also includes development in MRI technologies, theranostics, and ultrasound. By aligning research strengths with engineering leadership, GE HealthCare and Mayo Clinic aim to set a foundation for more robust, personalized radiation therapy capabilities that can evolve alongside emerging treatments and technologies.
